Ladywood students shine at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore!
Twelve Ladywood students and two teachers traveled to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for five days of volunteer service and environmental education. Students camped out in the park and worked with National Park Invasive Species Specialist Mike Jones each day. Students spent the majority of their time learning dune ecology and removing the invasive plant species baby's breath from the southern end of the park's dunes. The students also spent an afternoon helping to restore a meadow ecosystem in the park by removing cedar trees that were planted over 75 years ago by a farmer to protect his house from the wind. By removing the trees, the original meadow ecosystem could be restored to its natural state.
